Experimental Composition with Mixed Media

Discover the freedom of working beyond the constraints of traditionally defined media. We’ll mix up textiles, painting, collage and drawing to discover surprising combinations and a new perspective on composition. We’ll be working primarily on un-stretched, unprimed canvas, because it is a substrate that straddles painting and textiles.
I will demonstrate techniques, but the focus is on experimenting with visual content (line, shape, edge, etc.) to discover new approaches to composition. Challenge your assumptions, surprise yourself, and cultivate fluidity in the aesthetic choices you make while composing. If you feel stuck or need a new direction, this class is for you! Come with a thirst for experimentation and curiosity, and not with an expectation to create finished art. Though you may finish pieces, the focus is on exploration.
Intermediate to experienced artists will gain the most from this workshop. Experience with acrylic painting and collage and a working knowledge of color are required. If you are unsure of your level, please email me.
